SUMMARY:Towards Competency in the Private Practice of Psychology - Online Only
DESCRIPTION:This is co-hosted event with the AAPi\, President of the IPPP\, Tim Upsdell will be presenting on the following… \n  \nThe origins of the concept of competency are to be found in the work of psychologist David McClelland who developed a model that would predict successful performance. It has become a concept that is widely used across educational\, training\, employment\, and assessment contexts to analyse successful performance. \nThe Psychology Board has developed and is refining competencies for the profession as a whole. However\, the practice of psychology in different settings or domains may raise cause for differing competencies. For example\, consulting with an adult may require different competencies than consulting with a child. \nIn 2020\, 21% of psychologists worked in solo private practice and 19% in a group setting private practice. Combined they formed the largest cohort of work setting for psychologists. What are the competencies required for successful performance in private practice? The Institute of Private Practicing Psychologists has been exploring this since 1999\, and this presentation will explore the development and the future direction of those competencies. \nAs well as providing a context for the development of competencies in private practice\, the presentation will invite participants to apply the scientist-practitioner model to explore competency in their own private practice situation. It will be particularly applicable for those planning a private practice in the future or in a private practice that has started relatively recently. \n  \nIPPP members can attend for FREE. \nPlease contact secretary@psychologists.org.au to register. \nPlease note this event is hosted by the AAPi and a webinar link will be emailed once you have registered.
